The Humboldt County High School Rodeo Club started their 2015 season with a trip to Boulder City this past weekend to start the spring season the Nevada State High School Rodeo Association.
Just seven members made the trip, which was nearly 600 miles one way for some of Humboldt County's competitors.
Lowry junior Shaun Mentaberry led the squad with saddle bronc wins on Saturday and Sunday. Mentaberry made a beautiful 72-point ride Saturday afternoon after receiving a re-ride option when his horse fell out of the gate earlier that morning. His timing was on and he made a very pretty ride Saturday afternoon.
On Sunday, he made a solid 63-point ride, winning both days and the average and winning him a beautiful new buckle for his efforts.
The other notable performance was by sophomore Dusty Robertson, who finished eighth in goat tying on Saturday.
The remaining Humboldt County Club members who made the trip to Boulder included Patrice Stewart, Shaylee Robertson, Sarah Smith, Ty Meihel and Chris Gleason.
Humboldt County is back in action on Saturday, March 14 and Sunday, March 15 Fernley.
The Humboldt County Club holds its hometown rodeo on May 3-4 at the Winnemucca Events Complex.
