The competition heated up at Elko, on Saturday, Oct. 4 and Sunday, Oct. 5.

The Humboldt County Rodeo Club had some outstanding performances at the rodeos, most notably, Winnemucca rookie cowboy Seth Duncan. In only his third try riding bareback, he rode for a first-place finish on Sunday, Oct. 5. His determination, balance and overall body strength from wrestling really paid off for him. He received his first high school buckle for his efforts. Other top-10 finishes included Kenadee Miller with an eighth-place outing in barrels, Megan Miller 10th in poles, Luke and Caleb Logan seventh in team roping, Shaylee Robertson 10th in breakaway roping and Trase Bell and Luke Logan with third and fifth-place finishes in-tie down roping. Danyelle Brown and Hayley Hall collected fourth and sixth-place finishes in goat tying.

In the junior high ranks, last year's Nevada Junior High Rookie Cowboy of the Year Cade Bell led the pack with first-place finishes in chute dogging and ribbon roping. He was third and fifth in goat tying and added two third-place finishes in team roping. Bell and partner Heather Hall, took first in ribbon roping. Hall also finished sixth in junior high poles and ninth in goat tying. Her twin brother, Heath Hall, finished fourth and seventh.

The Humboldt County Rodeo Club moves next to Alamo, from Oct. 31-Nov. 2. Any junior or senior high school student in Humboldt County is eligible to join the rodeo club. Meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month at the Fairgrounds extension office, at 6.pm. Shaylee Robertson is the 2014-15 president and adult Directors are Dale Owen and Fred Stewart.[[In-content Ad]]
