Quint Bell leading the way for locals

Quint Bell recorded times in three of his four events in the first round at the National Junior High School Rodeo Finals in Des Moines, Iowa, to lead the contingent of three Humboldt County Rodeo Club members.

Bell tied for seventh in the Wednesday morning performance of boys goat tying with a time of 12.61 seconds and is 29th overall.

In his second performance in the goat tying on Wednesday night, Bell had a time of 13.16, which was good enough for 12th.

Bell, along with Humboldt County teammate Danyelle Brown were 7th in the Monday morning performance of ribbon roping, stopping the clock at 9.13. With the first round complete, they are 24th. Bell was 12th in the Sunday morning performance of chute dogging with a time of 10.66 and is 45th overall.

Bell and Brown make their second run on Friday morning in ribbon roping and he competes in chute dogging again on Saturday morning.

His brother Cade Bell, recorded no time in the boys breakaway on Monday night and Cade and Quint Bell had no time in the team roping on Tuesday morning. The duo were back in the arena on Thursday night for their second performance and results were not available at press time.

Featuring roughly 1,000 contestants from 42 states, five Canadian provinces and Australia, the NJHFR is the world's largest junior high rodeo. In addition to competing for more than $75,000 in prizes, NJHFR contestants will also be vying for more than $100,000 in college scholarships and the chance to be named a National Junior High School Rodeo national champion.

To earn this title, contestants must finish in the top 20 based on their combined times/scores in the first two rounds to advance the final round on the last day of the event. National champions will then be determined based on their three-round combined times/scores.

Again this year, the championship performance will be televised nationally as part of the Cinch Highschool Rodeo Tour telecast on RFD-TV. Live broadcasts of each performance will air online at HHSRATV.com.

Along with great rodeo competition and the chance to meet new friends from around the world, contestants have the opportunity to enjoy shooting sports, volleyball, tug-of-war, dances, family-oriented activities, church serviced sponsored by the Fellowship of Christian Cowboys, shopping at the trade show and visiting area attractions in Des Moines.
