CARSON CITY - At its 2012 annual conference in Carson City last week, the Nevada Association of Counties (NACO) announced the recipient of its Participatory Democracy Award and inductee into NACO's Honor Roll.
Humboldt County Commissioner Tom Fransway was presented NACO's Participatory Democracy Award for his ongoing commitment to public service and promoting public involvement in county government.
Fransway will end his term as a county commissioner this year after having served 18 years on the Humboldt County Commission. He is a member of the NACO Board of Directors and Public Lands and Natural Resources Committee, the National Association of Counties Western Interstate Region Board of Directors and Public Lands Steering Committee, and the State Transportation Board. He previously served on the Legislative Committee on Public Lands. Commissioner Fransway has been a tireless advocate for continuing access and multiple uses of public lands in the west, which included spearheading the adoption of several public lands resolutions by the National Association.
Nye County Commissioner Joni Eastley was inducted into NACO's Honor Roll, which recognizes individuals for their special achievement in and service to county government.
To receive this award, a person must exhibit honor, integrity, and meet the highest ethical standards for public service. Commissioner Eastley was recognized for her 12 years of leadership in Nye County and for her outstanding representation of Nevada's counties on numerous federal and state committees related to energy, land use, economic development, indigent defense and senior issues.
Eastley is a Past President of NACO, a member of its Board of Directors, and 2010 recipient of NACO's Participatory Democracy Award. She has been a mentor for many newly elected county officials, and was instrumental in creating the NACO Committee of the Emeritus.
NACO, formed in 1924, is the state association for county government officials and staff. All 17 Nevada counties are members.
