HOSPITAL'S 2013 'HEALTHY YEAR, HEALTHY YOU' SERIES KICKS OFF JAN. 17

WINNEMUCCA - This week, local residents are invited to kick off the New Year in the healthiest way possible.

On Thursday, January 17, Humboldt General Hospital will present the first installment of its 2013 "Healthy Year, Healthy You" seminar series.

"Goal Setting and Behavior Modification" will take place from noon to 1 p.m. in the hospital's Sonoma Conference Room. There is no charge to attend and lunch will be served.

Humboldt General Hospital Wellness Coordinator Louis Mendiola will lead the discussion.

"Everyone wants to make positive lifestyle changes," said Mendiola, "but maybe you've tried in the past and failed, chalking it up to another failed New Year's resolution."

Mendiola continued, "Modifying our behavior is challenging, for sure, but if you think of that resolution as an evolution, then change doesn't seem so impossible."

Mendiola said Thursday's presentation will focus on goal setting as a way of bringing about positive change in our lives.

"Lifestyle changes take time and require effort," he said, "but once you commit to a plan, you will see success. I invite you to come and get started."

January's seminar will kick off a year-long series of "Healthy Year, Healthy You" presentations aimed at helping local residents achieve a greater state of wellness.

Some of this year's coming presentations include: "Healthy Hearts," February 21; "Caring for Our Kidneys," March 21; "Understanding Your Eyes: Ocular Health," April 18; and, "Summertime Nutrition," May 16.

All presentations will be held from noon to 1 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month. There is never a charge to attend and lunch is always served.
