WINNEMUCCA - This week, local residents are invited to kick off the New Year in the healthiest way possible.
On Thursday, Jan. 19, Humboldt General Hospital will present the first installment of its 2012 "Healthy Year, Healthy You" seminar series.
"Make the Rest of Your Life the Best of Your Life: Physical Activity for a Healthy Weight" will take place from noon to 1 p.m. in the hospital's Sonoma Conference Room. There is no charge to attend and lunch will be served.
Humboldt General Hospital Wellness Coordinator Melissa House will lead the discussion.
"There are numerous health benefits associated with physical activity," said House. "It's a sure fire way to improve your mood, strengthen your bones and muscles and boost your energy."
She continued, "Of course, it's also a great way to shed extra pounds - pounds that can lead to disease and premature death."
Still, House said she wants participants in Thursday's seminar to "rethink" physical activity. "It's not just a quick fix to a great body, but a long-term solution to great health."
"We really want to take some time to help our participants make a commitment to physical activity for life."
January's seminar will kick off a year-long series of "Healthy Year, Healthy You" presentations aimed at helping local residents achieve a greater state of wellness.
All presentations will be held from noon to 1 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month. There is never a charge to attend and lunch is always served.
