WINNEMUCCA - Humboldt General Hospital's Employee Committee is giving back to the community.
In December, the facility's 250 employees voted in a new slate of officers for 2013, including Rick McComb, president; Timothy Benton, vice president; Amber Beck, secretary; and Louis Mendiola, treasurer.
The committee is tasked with raising money throughout the year for an end-of-year banquet - a massive in-house fundraising effort that allows each staff member and a guest to attend the dinner free of charge.
And this year's new officers are committed to providing the annual end-of-year celebration, which provides a backdrop for announcing the "Employee of the Year," "EMT of the Year" and "Supervisor of the Year" awards.
But the new 2013 officers are also looking to take the employee committee where it has never gone before - into the community.
And they did just that earlier this year by handing over a check for $434 to Frontier Community Coalition Executive Director Jeff Munk.
The Frontier Community Coalition's mission is to build healthy communities in Humboldt, Lander and Pershing counties by supporting programs that encourage a substance abuse-free lifestyle.
Munk accepted the check from the HGH representatives and began clapping his thanks - applause that quickly spread throughout the group assembled at their monthly meeting.
HGH Employee Committee President Rick McComb told the group, "We are happy to contribute to the FCC. I'm hoping that over time, the employees at Humboldt General Hospital will become very visible in the community in doing fundraising."
McComb said earlier that his committee meets monthly in an effort to brainstorm and plan how they can support HGH staff members as they give back to the community.
"This is a good direction for us," added McComb. "We want to do what we can to help our community and we're excited for what the coming year will bring in terms of those types of opportunities."
