WINNEMUCCA - Bobby Hoenck, a recent graduate of Lowry High School, has earned a position on the Nevada State High School Rodeo Team.
He will be traveling with his fellow teammates to Rock Springs, Wyo., July 15 - 21 to compete at the 64th annual National High School Rodeo Finals. He qualified for the 2012 NHSFR, and will be representing the state of Nevada in steer wrestling, bareback riding and boys cutting.
He will be taking his two American Quarter Horse geldings, Rebel Frost and Chicks Poco Rio, with him to compete in their specialized events. Hoenck's cutting horse, Chicks Poco Rio aka Big AL, was honored for a second year in a row as the Nevada State High School Rodeo AQHA Horse of the Year. This was quite an honor bestowed on quite a horse. The duo were just recently honored by The Pacific Coast Cutting Horse association with over $7,000 worth of scholarships and invited back this fall to Paso Robles, Calif., to compete for The Best of the West Invitational Scholarship Cutting. Only 15 youth from nine western states are invited to compete at this prestigious event. Hoenck and Big AL are two time defending champions of this event.
Hoenck finished his Nevada State High School Rodeo Association year with the state championship in boys cutting, reserve champion in the bareback and fourth in steer wrestling. He qualified to the Silver State International Rodeo in the saddle bronc.
The NHSFR features over 1,500 contestants from 41 states, five Canadian provinces and Australia and is the world's largest rodeo. In addition to competing for over $200,000 in prizes, NHSFR contestants will be competing for more than $350,000 in college scholarships and the chance to be named NHSR National Champion.
Along with great rodeo competition these national contestants will have the opportunity to meet new friends from around the world.
