Hiram Guzman, 92, of Winnemucca passed away, May 14, 2014, at Humboldt General Hospital of natural causes surrounded by his daughter Marisol and granddaughter Sabrina.
Hiram was born in Yauco, Puerto Rico on April 15, 1922 to Dulce Guzman Silva and was the oldest of 9 brothers and sisters.
He moved to Winnemucca in 1962 where he lived until his passing. Hiram worked as a track labor for the Southern Pacific Railroad between Reno and Utah laying down railroad ties. The last 10 years he worked in Winnemucca and retired after 30 years.
Hiram was preceded in death by Aramita, his wife of 53 years. He is survived by his sons, Juan (Barbara) Guzman of Washoe Valley, Hiram Guzman Jr. "Ricardo" of Pennsylvania, Mike Guzman (Don Staten) of Reno, Vicente Guzman of Winnemucca, and two daughters, Marisol Guzman (Salvador Mercado) of Winnemucca and Evelyn Garcia (Alberto) of Burley Idaho. He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 31 at 503 Monroe St. Winnemucca.
