Hinkey's best toss of 43 feet, 1.75 inches, earned him the runner-up spot. The senior was the defending state champion in the event. Spring Mountain's Joseph Henry won the state title with a throw of 44-09.25.
Fellow senior Frankie Hill competed in four events, posting a fourth-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 44.66 seconds. In addition, Hill was fifth in the 110-meter hurdles at 18.32. Spring Mountain's Montell Russum won both races with times of 41.55 and 15.50, respectively.
Hill added a fifth-place finish in the triple jump, which was the last event of the championships on Saturday afternoon, with a leap of 38-09.50. Pahranagat Valley's Austin Poulson won the event with a mark of 42.08.75. The senior added a sixth-place finish in the discus with a throw of 98-09. Sierra Lutheran's Alex Borgman won the state title at 127-06.
The Bulldogs were 10th out of 17 teams with 24 points. Sierra Lutheran was the boys team champion with 177 points and Spring Mountain was second at 153. Beatty (49), Tonopah (48) and Eureka (35) rounded out the top five.
The McDermitt girls did not have any participants at the state championships. Sierra Lutheran won the girls team title with 137 points and Beatty was second at 99. Indian Springs (98), Wells (91.50) and Lund (52) completed the top five.
