WINNEMUCCA -The local rodeo board welcomed its two newest members in 2012.
Becky Hill and Glynn Montero were appointed by the Humboldt County Commission to four-year terms last summer.
They join six other directors of the Agricultural District No. 3 who oversee operations at the Winnemucca Events Complex as well as sponsor Winnemucca's Ranch Hand Rodeo Weekend, the Winnemucca Mule Show and Races, the Tri-County Fair & Stampede and a host of other events, both livestock and non-livestock related.
Both have a long-standing background in agriculture and ranching, and both have expressed a desire to help promote and share that heritage within the Humboldt County community.
Hill, a former Miss Rodeo Winnemucca, has taught agricultural-related courses at Lowry High School since 2002; she is also the Future Farmers of America adviser. In fact, she was named the FFA Adviser of the Year by the Nevada Association for Career and Technical Education in 2012. Hill is an avid barrel racer and competes regularly in area events. She also enjoys snowmobiling and spending time with her husband Jesse Hill and children Cooper and Taylor.
Montero has lived and worked at his family's ranch at Leonard Creek for most of his life, with the exception of four-plus years at college in southern Idaho and eastern Oregon. He participated in pro, college and high school rodeo and continues to be involved today.
"My goals would be to raise my family, be a successful rancher and be a great part of the community," he said.
Ag 3 Director Kim Petersen said the rodeo board is fortunate to include Hill and Montero among its members.
"They both bring a lot of experience, knowledge and skills to the table," he said. "They're really an asset to our organization."
Petersen added, "Both Becky and Glynn are willing to work hard, to give their time and their talents to help build up our special event calendar; we are grateful for their contributions."
The Agricultural District No. 3 Board meets beginning at 5:30 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month in the West Hall, Winnemucca Convention Center. The public is invited to attend.
