High school to get new gymnasium bleachers

Roofing and painting projects almost finished

BATTLE MOUNTAIN - Battle Mountain High School will soon be seeing new gymnasium bleachers, said Superintendent Jim Squibb.

The project bid was awarded to Hufcor for $74,000 at the Sept. 12 Lander County School Board meeting. The installation will be done over the Christmas break which is from Dec. 19 to Jan. 2 and should be wrapped up by the time school starts again, said Squibb.

The new bleachers will seat just over 700 people. The home side will feature one section that will be 11 rows high and the visitor side will have two sections each containing six rows.

The bleachers have to be replaced because of safety concerns, said Squibb. The old ones are lacking railings and there are gaps in between the sections.

The old ones are metal and the new ones will be hard plastic. The old bleachers were installed in 1990 when the gymnasium was built, said Squibb. The high school was built in 1981.

The replacement of the bleachers is part of the school district's five-year plan, said Squibb.

The new roof on the high school and the painting of the outside are almost wrapped up, he added. Both projects cost a total of around $840,000.
