With it being spring break for Humboldt County students, the high school sports schedule is light for the week.
The Buckaroo swim, boys golf and track and field teams all have the week off. Lowry's boys golf team is not back in action until Wednesday, April 15, in Elko. The swim team is off a couple more days and returns to competitive action on Friday, April 17, in Reno against Sparks and Sage Ridge.
The Buckaroo track and field team gets back work on Friday, April 11, at the Elko Invitational.
However, there is no break in the action for the Lowry softball and baseball teams. With the schedule as full as can be, there are no bye weeks in the Division I-A North schedule.
The Lady Bucks completed a three-game sweep of Dayton last weekend to improve to 8-1 in the Division I-A North and 11-2 overall. Lowry hosts South Tahoe on Friday at 3 p.m. and the two schools play a doubleheader on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Churchill County leads the league with a 7-0 record, Lowry is second at 8-1 and Fernley (7-1) is third. Elko holds the fourth and final playoff spot at 6-4, while Sparks is fifth at 4-6.
The Lowry baseball team won one of three games this past weekend at Dayton and are on the outside looking in in terms of the playoff hunt.
The Buckaroos sit eighth in the Division I-A North at 2-7. Churchill County leads the league at 6-1, Elko is second at 8-2 and South Tahoe (6-3) and Spring Creek (6-4) are third and fourth, respectively.
Lowry hosts South Tahoe this weekend, beginning Friday at 3 p.m. The series concludes with a doubleheader on Saturday at 11 a.m. In addition, the Buckaroos still have a three-game series with Churchill County, Spring Creek and Fernley, who are all ahead of the Buckaroos in the standings.
The McDermitt High School track and field team is in action this weekend as well, traveling to Parma High School in Idaho for the Lynn Behrman Invitational.
