BATTLE MOUNTAIN - Battle Mountain High School is loaded with activities during the month of October. The two big events are Homecoming Week from Oct. 7 - 12 and parent-teacher conferences on Oct. 30 and Nov. 1. There are all sorts of other things going on in between so be sure to look for information coming home with your student and also checkout our district and school websites.
The first event of the month was going to be the ASVAB test given to out juniors on Oct. 2. We do this as a skill, abilities and interests evaluation for our students. We find the information we get from the ASVAB useful in helping students plan for their future. Due to unforeseen circumstances the test has been rescheduled for Oct. 21.
Homecoming week is scheduled this week. The following is a list of events, dates and times for the rest of the week:
Wednesday, Oct. 9 - We all take a deep breath and prepare for the rest of the week.
Thursday, Oct. 10 - Vanities performed at the Battle Mountain Civic Center. Skits and comedic performances will start at 8 p.m. A bonfire will start after the Vanities are over. The bonfire will be in the empty area near the BMHS gymnasium.
Friday, Oct. 11 - Homecoming parade starts at noon in Etcheverry's parking lot and ends at Battle Mountain Junior High school. There will be a JV football game that starts at 4:30 p.m. with the Varsity kicking off at 7 p.m.
Saturday, Oct. 12 - The Homecoming dance at BMHS starts at 8:30 p.m. and goes until 11:30 p.m. The dance will be held in the BMHS commons area.
On Oct. 9 three of our community partners, Barrick, Goldcorp, and Newmont, will be joining with BMHS to present a Career Expo. This is aimed mainly at our ninth grade students. The idea is to help our students understand the variety of jobs available in our area and to start mapping out an education plan now.
On Oct. 14 school pictures will be taken at BMHS. Be sure to look your best.
On Oct. 30 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and Nov. 1 from 7:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. Battle Mountain High school will be holding parent-teacher conferences. It is important to the success of our students that parents and teachers communicate often and clearly. This is a fantastic opportunity to work together to help our students succeed.
Collin Belnap is the principal at Battle Mountain High School.
