High Desert Divas' food drive a success

WINNEMUCCA - The High Desert Divas, the Winnemucca chapter of the Red Hat Society, held their annual food drive for the Winnemucca Food Bank this past Saturday at McDonald's and collected 245 pounds of food, according to Zerella Buttars, the food bank's director.

Buttars said she thought the event was a success and that the food bank really appreciates the High Desert Divas for hosting it.

Pat Stathis, High Desert Diva queen, said that the group hosts the food drive every year and feels it is necessary to support the community food bank, especially this time of year.

"At Christmas people give more, but the food bank needs food all year round," Stathis said. "We do this a few months after Christmas to help replenish their shelves."

The High Desert Divas set up at McDonald's each year. This year, the food drive was held from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., and Stathis said she looks forward to doing it again next year and continuing to support the community.

"We really appreciate McDonald's allowing us to do this year after year," she said. "And thanks to the food bank for taking care of the community."[[In-content Ad]]
