WINNEMUCCA - A long-time veteran of Humboldt General Hospital is back on the job.
Eddy Davis hasn't worked at the 118 E. Haskell St. facility since 2004, but before that, he logged more than 18 years with the organization, first as an accountant beginning in 1986, and finally as chief financial officer.
Now, in his new role as comptroller, Davis will act as the accounting/audit expert at HGH while implementing and monitoring internal controls, independent of the chief financial officer.
"This has been a great place to work," he said. "I've always been busy, which is important in a job for me - and it's been a good place to make friends. I have made some longtime friendships for life."
He continued, "I've been through five administrators, and numerous boards. The operating budget has grown from $2 million in 1986 to over $45 million in 2013."
Davis was born in Texas, although he spent the majority of his youth in Battle Mountain. Before coming to Humboldt General, he managed the Battle Mountain Bugle from 1978 to 1983 before moving to the accounting department at Milchem, a barite mine.
Prior to his return to HGH in March, Davis worked at Northern Nevada Medical Center in Sparks as a staff accountant. He also worked for a year as a budget analyst at the North Valmy Power Plant for Sierra Pacific Power Company. His most recent job was as city clerk/treasurer for the city of Winnemucca from August 2006 until this year.
Davis said when the position opened at HGH, he jumped at the chance to return.
"For some reason, I had always missed working in healthcare and kept an interest in HGH while I was gone."
Davis who is a self-professed numbers guy, said he will be keeping a lot of statistics at his new post and doing a lot of financial reports for month-end, budget planning and other forecasting.
But he doesn't plan on getting too comfortable with his new position any time soon.
"I expect I will grow into any new requirements the job may present in the future. Financial accounting in healthcare is ever-changing with new reporting requirements."
In his spare time, Davis enjoys spending time with his two Dachshunds, Huey and Callie. "They keep me busy and are the main reason I work every day."
Davis also enjoys working around his house and yard; he's currently in the process of re-painting the entire interior of his house.
His family includes a sister in Winnemucca, a sister and brother in Elko, and a brother in Tupelo, Miss.
"We are a close family, but it's hard to get together now that our mom is gone," he said. "She was the center of it all!"
