HGH to offer free sports physicals to area youth

Local youth athletes are invited to get a free physical examination from Humboldt General Hospital on Saturday, Aug. 9.

For the sixth year in a row, HGH will offer free sports physicals to all Lowry High School, McDermitt High School, Winnemucca Junior High School and Humboldt County youth sports organization athletes who will participate in school-sanctioned or community sports.

Additionally, any other youth in need of physical examinations for other activities such as scouting are invited to participate.

Youth may stop by anytime between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. on the main floor of Humboldt General Hospital's new medical office building.

Students will be served on a first-come, first-served basis; no appointments will be scheduled. Last check-in time is 4 p.m.

Sports physicals traditionally cost $100 or more from providers. "So this will be about a $10,000 donation to the community," said Humboldt General Hospital CEO/Administrator Jim Parrish, "but it's a donation we are happy to make to ensure the good health of these young athletes."

Free physicals are only offered during each year's sports physical clinic and are not available free of charge from HGH providers at any other time.

Students should bring their physical examination form with them. All students must also be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

"Hopefully this continued event will once again ease parents' out-of-pocket expense," said Parrish. "We're proud of our youth and want them to be successful in all they do."
