WINNEMUCCA - Community residents are invited to help celebrate the completion of Humboldt General Hospital's new medical office building.
The hospital will join with the Humboldt County Chamber of Commerce at 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, to host a ribbon-cutting ceremony in the main lobby of the new building, located at 118 E. Haskell St.
The event, which will officially "open" the building to the community, will include brief remarks from HGH CEO/Administrator Jim Parrish, representatives from CTA Architects Engineers, R&O Construction, HGH Owner Rep Mike Sheppard and Humboldt County Hospital District Board of Trustees Chairman Moe Hanzlik.
Additionally, local law enforcement officers will join with members of Humboldt General's Emergency Medical Services Rescue department to host a color guard ceremony; HGH Physician Services Director Debi Bell is also scheduled to sing the National Anthem.
An open house will follow until 8 p.m. Guided tours of the new facility will be available from members of HGH EMS Rescue along with hors d'oeuvres and small goodies commemorating the grand opening. Huggy, HGH's heart mascot, also will be on hand.
Construction on the new medical office building began in July 2010; crews are putting the finishing touches on several departmental expansions this month before declaring the project officially complete.
In all, the hospital has added more than 35,000 square feet of space to its campus including the addition of a medical office building to the front of the existing hospital structure.
That building houses eight new first- and second-story medical office suites with a central reception and scheduling area.
The corner medical office space is a brand new Walk-In Clinic, which opened to patients July 9. Patients may simply drop in, no appointment necessary.
Additionally, three of those medical clinics now house advanced practice nurses who each maintain their own family practices.
Lisa Jonkey, FNP-BC, and Ladonna Reyka, FNP-C, joined our community in mid-July. Sandra Deveny, APN-C, has been serving patients at the Walk-In Clinic since May 1.
Smaller expansions of some departments including Radiology, Respiratory, Purchasing, Wellness, the Business Office, Medical Records, Administration and Emergency have also taken place.
Additionally, the medical office of Dr. Shouping Li has been transformed into the Information Technology Department, while the medical office building located at the corner of Haskell and Mizpah streets will now host visiting physicians.
