HGH future building workshop tomorrow at 8 a.m.

Humboldt General Hospital Board members are gathering this Saturday for a workshop with CTA architects and with the hospital's accounting firm, Clifton Larson Allen. The meeting will begin at 8 a.m. and has been left open-ended so hospital board members can take the time they need to ask questions and receive much more information than they would be able to in a regular board meeting.

The meeting goal is to go over all of the work done in the last few years at the hospital including the remodeling and expansion, along with replacement and upgrade of both electrical and HVAC systems. Hospital CEO Jim Parrish will also go over current services and operations at the hospital.

Board members will hear from Clifton Larson Allen representatives, who will present a report and projections on the future of health care services throughout the country as well as more specific to rural health care in Humboldt County.

Then the board will hear a presentation on future building and facilities expansion plans from CTA Architects, engineers, and owner's representative Mike Sheppard. They'll have the opportunity to get answers to their specific questions regarding the proposed expansion including the memory care addition to and remodeling of Harmony Manor long-term care facility.

Following that, they'll go over a financial overview and projections for the future of the hospital under varying scenarios. They'll have the opportunity to work with a computer software program that can take into account 1200 variables to allow them to see the effect of future possibilities from patient health insurance reimbursements, population increase and decrease, to changing reimbursements from Medicare and Medicaid among many possibilities. The program can project hospital operating costs and revenue under best case, likely, and worst case scenarios. Board members have asked for this kind of information to help them make decisions regarding the future building and expansion projects that are proposed.

The meeting is open to the public and public commentary will be accepted at both the beginning and the end of the workshop, which will be held in the Sarah Winnemucca meeting room at the hospital.
