WINNEMUCCA - Area residents are invited to take their emergency training to a professional level beginning in February.
Humboldt General Hospital Emergency Medical Services Rescue will host a nationally certified EMT Course from Feb. 4 through May 3.
According to HGH EMS Education Coordinator Ken Whittaker, the course is directed at those who would like to become an Emergency Medical Technician.
"This will give them the classroom instruction and the labs they will need to achieve that goal," said Whittaker.
Participants will meet from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays at the ambulance station adjacent to HGH. Some Saturday instruction will also take place.
Whittaker said much of the instruction will center on basic medical concepts, terminology and skills at the EMT level. Course topics will include bleeding, splitting of fractures, managing airway obstruction and managing cardiac arrest.
Students must have a Healthcare Provider CPR card or be certified as a Professional Rescuer in order to apply. Contact Debbie Whittaker at (775) 623-5222, ext. 1363 for information.
Cost for the instruction is $800, which includes all books and materials. Application is mandatory prior to the start of classes. For information or to apply, call Ken Whittaker at (775) 623-5222, ext. 1362.[[In-content Ad]]
