HGH EMS rescue to present 2014 EMS Refresher

WINNEMUCCA - Emergency services personnel from across the state are invited to Winnemucca to complete their continuing education requirements.

Humboldt General Hospital Emergency Medical Services will offer its "2014 Annual EMS Refresher" from Friday, Oct. 31 through Sunday, Nov. 2 at Humboldt General Hospital.

According to HGH EMS Rescue Education Coordinator David Ellis, this year's program will offer classroom and on-site instruction for a well-rounded student experience.

"We've offered this 24-hour refresher course since 2003," said Ellis, "and each year we step it up even more to give our participants the best information possible as they move into the new year."

Ellis said personnel from every aspect of emergency services are invited to attend, including representatives from the medical, fire, law enforcement and mining fields. "We've got something for everyone," he said.

This year's lineup covers everything from CPR for healthcare providers, ropes rescue, and heavy extrication, to the latest information for EMS professionals on obstetrics and pediatrics. Participants are reminded to dress for the terrain and the weather.

A Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals (PEPP) course will also be offered from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31 at the hospital. Cost is $50 without books and $100 with books.

Courses will be taught by representatives from HGH EMS Rescue.

"Each year we are focused on making our annual refresher a place where EMS providers can access the most timely information and network with other EMS agencies from across the state," said Ellis.

He added, "We are excited for this year's program and know that each participant will go away more prepared to help those in need."

Registration will take place at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31 at Humboldt General Hospital.

Participants who pre-register for the conference by Monday, Oct. 27 pay only $175; those who register after Oct. 27 pay $200.
