Two Lowry High School graduates were the lucky-and deserving-recipients of scholarships from Humboldt General Hospital.
Jasmine Diaz, daughter of Ana and Francisco Diaz, received $1,000 from HGH to pursue a health-related career.
Jasmine plans to be a registered nurse and eventually work at a cancer institute. She will attend Great Basin College this fall before transferring to UNR next year.
Jasmine said she has wanted to be a nurse ever since she was a little girl, but when her grandfather passed away recently from cancer, her desire to become an RN was not only solidified, but so was her desire to work in oncology.
Coincidentally, Jasmine's mom, Ana, is a member of HGH's Housekeeping/Laundry Department.
Dusty Bryan, son of Darlene and Rodger Bryan, received $1,000 from the HGH Employee Committee-money which is raised through that group's employee giving program.
That scholarship is awarded to the son or daughter of an HGH employee. Dusty's mom, Darlene, is HGH's Chief Nursing Officer.
Dusty plans to attend Brigham Young University in the fall where he will pursue a degree in engineering or business.
Humboldt General Hospital Employee Committee President Rick McComb offered congratulations to Jasmine and Dusty for their scholastic efforts in high school and their continued academic progress in coming years.
"Jasmine and Dusty are both fine students, and we're excited to see what their future holds," he said.
