Herman Tietjen passed away in his sleep after a long day of scouting for elk with his daughter Deborah and her husband Dave, and his son Wayne Tietjen.
Herman was a true son of Nevada, the heart and soul of the state he loved so much. He died shortly after doing what he loved: roaming the back roads of his beloved home state looking for wildlife.
He was born in Paradise Valley, Nev., to Heinie and Bernadine Tietjen.
He grew up in the Paradise Valley and Lovelock area ranches and joined the Navy at a young age.
Herman met the love of his life while stationed in San Diego and married Anita Patton in June of 1952.
They had four children, Deborah Shaw (Dave), Ruth Tietjen (Brad), Wayne Tietjen (Debbie), Mary Ritland (Chris) and a multitude of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Herman was an amazing man who knew almost every mountain, creek and sagebrush in northern Nevada.
He passed on his love of nature, hunting, fishing and especially Nevada to everyone he came into contact with.
When he said "Home means Nevada," he said it with absolute sincerity and conviction.
Following Herman's wishes, there will be no formal services. However there will be a celebration of life for him at a later date (as yet to be determined) and his children will make every effort to notify everyone when we have a date set.
