Helen Nadene Hobbs Adams

Helen Nadene Hobbs Adams passed away March 31, 2014 in Battle Mountain.

Nadene was born June 25, 1926 to Martin Henry Hobbs and Effie Ethel Hobbs in Ada, Okla. She was one of 12 children and the last living member of her family.

Nadene met George Adams in Stonewall, Okla. George saw Nadene and her sister from across the street and liked Nadene's yellow dress and her high heels. He was too shy to go talk to her, so he sent his niece to go ask her on a date for him. She liked him for his shiny shoes and nice smile and said yes. They got married Sept. 30, 1946 in Ada, Okla. They moved to Hobbs, N.M. in 1948 where they raised their four children: Larry, Georgia Lynn, Kenneth and Darrell.

Nadene worked at White's Department Store as a sales clerk for many years. While working there, she introduced her daughter, Lynn, to a co-worker, Louis Chambliss. Lynn and Louis married soon after. Company policy did not allow relatives to work together, so either Nadene or Louis would have to quit; Nadene thought it better that she be the one to quit so Louis would be able to support himself and his new wife. She then went to work at Furr's Supermarket in the cosmetics department where she remained until retiring in 1984. George and Nadene moved to Battle Mountain in 1998.

Nadene enjoyed shopping, traveling (especially to Branson, Mo.), camping and fishing. She was also one of the only women in the world who enjoyed ironing.

Nadene is survived by George, her husband of 67 years, her children Larry Williams (Marjorie) of Tulsa, Okla.; Georgia Lynn Chambliss of Battle Mountain; Kenneth Adams (Patricia) of Midland, Texas; 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, all of her siblings, her son, Darrell, and her granddaughter, Dana Lynn.

A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church on 7th and Weaver in Battle Mountain, NV on Friday, April 4, at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Nadene Adams Memorial Nursing Scholarship. Contributions can be sent to Lynn Chambliss at PO Box 161, Battle Mountain, NV 89820.[[In-content Ad]]
