Helen R Hurtado, Leidner, Priestly, 79 of Winnemucca, Nev., passed away peacefully May 22, 2014 in Reno, Nev., with her daughter Donna, best friend Carol and her Pastor (Gail) by her side.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Methodist Church Friday, May 30 at 3 p.m. with a casual meal to follow in the church dining room.
Helen was born in Nettleham, Lincolnshire, England where she grew up the youngest of six with four sisters Joyce, Gwen, Betty, Beryl and one brother Jim.
She was raised during World War II on a farm in Nettleham and went to private school in England. She married a USA Air Force radio man Stewart Leidner while in England and had three daughters while there, and then they came to the USA and had two more children, totaling four daughters and one son.
Stewart passed in 1985.
Helen then met Greg Hurtado and married; they were happily married for many years. Helen has lived and raised her family in Winnemucca for more than 50 years.
Helen worked in Winnemucca driving taxi in the early years, she also worked at Sierra Sid's truck stop as well as owning her own businesses with her daughters.
Helen retired and started volunteer work for the Hospital Auxiliary. She was very proud of the accomplishments made by the volunteers there and at the Poke and Peek thrift shop. These organizations do many services for the community and Humboldt General Hospital as well as the Manor.
Helen is preceded in death by husband Greg, her two sisters Gwen and Betty, her brother Jim and her daughter Sonja.
Helen is survived by her two sisters, Joyce and Beryl, her three daughters Linda, Rhonda and Donna and son Dale; also five grandchildren, Jim, Jerry, RJ, Russel, Nick, and two great-grandchildren, Matt and Jacob.
