WINNEMUCCA - The Humboldt County Sheriff's Office arrested Lizandro Portillo, of North Dakota and California, on suspicion of possession of marijuana with intent to sell, transportation of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia after discovering 30 pounds of marijuana in his vehicle, according to an HCSO news release.
HCSO Sgt. Lee Dove stopped to check on the welfare of Portillo on Thursday, Jan. 10, at about 4 p.m. Portillo's vehicle was parked alongside the road in the area of Rose Creek Road and West Winnemucca Boulevard.
During contact with Portillo, Sgt. Dove developed probable cause to believe that the vehicle may have contained controlled substances. Dove applied for a search warrant with the Union Township Justice Court and was granted one, according to HCSO.
Several large vacuum sealed bags containing suspected marijuana were located in the car during the search; the approximate weight was over 30 pounds, according to the HCSO.
Portillo was subsequently placed under arrest and booked into the Humboldt County Detention Center; his bail was set at $30,627. According to the HCSO, as of Jan. 14, Portillo had posted bail and been released from custody.
