Battle Mountain residents Brian Boyd (striped T-shirt), with the National Weather Service, and Randie Potter (white T-shirt), an intern with the Lander County Sheriff's Department, took part in a hazardous materials emergency training exercise July 30 in Winnemucca. The two volunteered to be decontaminated as part of the training. The drill involved numerous agencies and emergency responders and was coordinated by Union Pacific Railroad, which provided a tanker car for the training. The scenario involved a simulated leak of anhydrous ammonia. Railroad officials offered training on how railroad cars work, how to shut off valves, who to contact, etc. in the event of a real emergency.[[In-content Ad]]
