'Haunted' Virginia City to host zombie run Oct. 12

VIRGINIA CITY - Considered one of the most haunted places in the country, Virginia City hosts Redrun, a zombie-themed six-mile race on Oct. 12 produced by Liquid Blue Events, a Reno-based event production company.

Considered the most authentic zombie run on the planet, race participants traverse six miles of Virginia City hills and historical landmarks, including the cemetery, China Town, the original Virginia & Truckee train station and tunnel as well as downtown Virginia City. Throughout the run, participants are chased by zombies with one goal - capture the runner's flags.

The race course is also riddled with obstacles aptly themed, including the Blood Bath and "Soul Redemption," where participants must work with others to carry a body bag 250 yards up steep terrain in order to earn an extra flag.

To add to the fun, six revive stations are located throughout the course, each supplied with water, sports drinks and, of course, beer to allow runners to rest up.

Interested runners can register for Redrun as a living runner, a living dead or a living insane. To register visit redrunvc.com.

After Redrun, the Zombie Manifestival takes place in downtown Virginia City on C Street with live music by The Spazmatics and a Redrum Bar Crawl spanning 13 historic bars and saloons in Virginia City.
