Harper finishes second in saddle bronc at College National Finals Rodeo

WINNEMUCCA - Six former members of the Humboldt County Rodeo Club competed at the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyo., from June 9 -15.

Joe Harper, a student-athlete at Panhandle State, finished second in the nation in the saddle bronc. Harper finished third in the first go-around with 75.5 points, with two riders tying for first with 77 points. Harper tied for fifth place in the second go-around with a score of 71.5.

He claimed first place in the third go-around with 76 points to win the round by two points. In the short go-around he was third with 75 points.

Christian Stremler (Mesalands) and Cole Hatcher (College of Southern Idaho) also competed in the saddle bronc competition.

Stremler finished 10th in the first go-around with 66 points, while Hatcher didn't record a score. The duo switched spots in the second go-around, with Hatcher placing 12th with 62.5 points and Stremler not recording a score.

Stremler stayed on for the full eight seconds in the third go-around and finished 10th with 66.5 points. Hatcher did not record a score in the third go-around. In the short go-around, Stremler failed to stay on for the full eight seconds.

Trenten Montero (New Mexico State) and Paeden Underwood-Munger (New Mexico State) competed in the bareback riding.

Montero tied for ninth in the first go-around with 72 points and Underwood-Munger did not record a score. Montero placed 27th in the second go-around and Underwood-Munger was 34th with 55 points.

In the third go-around, Montero placed 17th with 69.5 points and Underwood-Munger did not stay on for the full eight seconds. Neither rider qualified for the short go-around.

Victor Ugalde, (New Mexico State) qualified for the College National Finals in team roping.

Ugalde along with Morgan McVey, finished 23rd in the first go-around with a time of 11.5 seconds. The duo moved up a spot to 22nd in the second go-around, stopping the clock at 13.0. They did not record a time in the third go-around and fell short of the short go-around.

Billy Brown of Tarleton State was the all-around cowboy with 370 points. Joe Frost (Panhandle State) was second with 220 points and Ryan Domer (Northwestern Oklahoma State) finished third at 100. Dane Kissack (Gillette College) and Blane Cox (Hill College) were fourth and fifth, respectively.

Hayden Segelke of Northeastern Junior College was the women's all-around champion with 465 points. Idaho State's Kimberlyn Fehringer was second at 445.

Cadee Tew (Tarleton State) was third with 195 points and Macy Fuller (Mesalands) and Kelsey Lutjen (Central Arizona) were fourth and fifth, respectively.

Panhandle State won the men's team championship with 820 points and College of Southern Idaho was second with 745 points.

Idaho State claimed the women's championship with 520 points and Northeastern Junior College was second with 490 points.
