BATTLE MOUNTAIN - October has been a warm month here in Battle Mountain. All of our trees are now losing their leaves that have been a beautiful gold-red color. Ervin and I took a trip to southern Utah to see the canyons. We visited Kolob canyon. We saw the canyon early in the morning just when the sun was peeking over the mountains. The colors were purple, pink, gold and many shades of red. We were able to take our car on the tour. Later we drove thru to Zion National Park. The traffic was constant and we had trouble parking. Their trolley cars run every 10 minutes and they take you to the top. It is a trip I will always remember. The next day we went to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Ervin had never seen it before. The snow started to fall and pile up really fast. They predicted a lot of snow that day. We were unable to get lodging for the night so we left. We will hopefully see it another day. Ervin knows why it is called the Grand Canyon now.

Our Senior Center has been preparing everyone for Halloween. We have had desserts made like broomsticks and pudding with gummy worms sticking out. On Halloween wieners were cut to look like worms in a sauce. Everyone agreed that all of the specialties tasted good. On Halloween we had a witch's hat decorating contest. Many did an excellent job decorating their hats as you can see in the picture. Dayna Jim brought a dancing broom that actually swept the floor. The spiders, webs and skeletons were quite thick at the senior center, but everyone survived just fine.

It is time for the centers bake sale and bazaar. Come and see Joyce Gronnings paintings, Robin's baskets, Angelica's collectibles, Helen's gourds, Michelle's crafts for hospice, and Heather's crocheted hats. We have been making some warm pillow cases for the winter. We will have chili and cornbread for $3. Coffee is free. The seniors are the best bakers in town. Come and try some of their specialties at the bake sale. Hope to see everyone on Saturday, Nov. 17, from 9 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Raffle tickets will also be available for our upcoming raffle in December.
