WINNEMUCCA - Grass Valley Elementary School first-grade teachers recently hosted their 3rd annual Art Extravaganza at the Winnemucca Convention Center.
The tradition began three years ago when the teachers secured a grant through Newmont Mining Corporation. Grant funds were used to purchase art kits from The Meet the Artists art curriculum.
Each curriculum kit focuses on the artistic styles of famous master artists like: Pablo Picasso, Georgia O'Keefe, Vincent Van Gogh, Piet Mondrian and Rosa Bonheur. Students are introduced to the artist, learn the history of the artist, explore the artist's techniques and finally create their own reproduction in the likeness of the master artist.
The project culminates with a "museum-style" showing of all the student artwork. Students and parents are invited to view the talented young artists' masterpieces. The Grass Valley Elementary PTA sponsors the event and provided light refreshments.
Parents and family members were amazed with the artist endeavors of these talented young students. This memorable evening will not soon be forgotten by those who attended.
