BATTLE MOUNTAIN - Several students were recently visited by guest violin teacher Doris Hosfeldt.
Hosfeldt, who is from Reno, traveled to Battle Mountain to spend the day working with the young musicians on Thursday, Feb. 9.
According to Eleanor Lemaire Elementary School part-time music instructor Judy Dahl, several students had previously shown an interest in forming a violin class. Dahl said that this is the first time that Battle Mountain will have a stringed instrument section for their school band in the many years that she has been an employee with the Lander County School District.
After seeing the students' interest, Dahl made arrangements for Hosfeldt to come and work with the youngsters, to help them get acquainted with their new instruments, as well as teaching them some of the basic fundamentals.
The following students participate in the newly formed violin class at Eleanor Lemaire Elementary School: Felicia Hall, Michaela Young, Chance Russell, Madison Fotsch, Araceli Ramirez, Alanna Schoner, Jillian Bisiaux, Brandon Stallard, Ayiana Malone, Aubrei Schmidt and Abigail Okrzesik. They are under the direction of Dahl.
Luis Cheno and Angelica Cox attended the session along with Sheri Staton. Staton is the music teacher at Battle Mountain Elementary Schools. She teaches band and music at Battle Mountain Junior High School as well as Battle Mountain High School. In addition to bringing her students to participate in the lesson, she assisted Hosfeldt throughout the day.
Dahl said that she would like to see any local experienced players who would be interested in assisting to help the students learn contact her. She would also like to encourage any volunteer musicians to participate with the students on a regular or guest basis. Dahl can be reached at ELES at 635-8114.
