"Grow Your Own!" classes begin in April

WINNEMUCCA - The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension (UNCE) is once again offering its "Grow Your Own!" classes to help you get on the path to sustainable, local, healthy living.

Beginning in April, UNCE offices in Carson City, Elko, Eureka, Fallon, Lovelock, Reno, Tonopah, Winnemucca and Yerington will return with the ever-popular "Grow Your Own!" series, providing gardeners and health buffs in the Silver State with a "back-to-the-basics guide to great harvests in Nevada." Classes will be held on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and in Winnemucca will be at the Humboldt County Extension Office, 1085 Fairgrounds Road.

"Anyone can become a better gardener by attending these classes," said Horticulture Specialist Heidi Kratsch. "From the beginner to the advanced gardener, everyone can benefit from a Grow Your Own class."

Extension experts will touch on growing in Nevada soils, insects and other garden pests, efficient irrigation, nutrients and fertilizers, edible herbs and flowers, berries and brambles, and selecting fruit tree varieties.
