Grover Tom Jr., 72, of Fort McDermitt, Nev., passed away on Jan. 13, 2014, at Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno, Nev.
Grover was born Aug. 27, 1941, in Owyhee, Nev., to Grover Tom Sr. and Winona Crutcher. He later moved to McDermitt where he lived throughout his lifetime.
Grover married Goldie Cracker and raised their four children in McDermitt. He worked for various ranches in the area then for Pacific Western System where he retired after 30-plus years of service. Grover was a member of the Native American Church. He loved to camp, enjoyed hunting and fishing and especially loved to be with his grandchildren.
Grover is survived by his wife Goldie, son Larry J. Tom, daughter Gaylene Tom, both of McDermitt, and nephew Garrett Cracker, that he raised as his own. He had seven grandchildren, Lane, Ashley P., Katelyn J., Ellison C., Shante M. Tom, Larrel Reese Smart and Gabbrielle J. Cracker, his brothers Lawrence Tom of McDermitt and Rupert Tom of Burns, Ore.
Grover was preceded in death by his parents Winona and Grover Tom Sr., his sons Sheldon Lynn and Gaylord Tom and his sister Carmelita Northrup.
The family would like to thank the Doctors and staff of Renown Regional Medical Center and special thanks to the LDS members of Orvada and all the individuals that provided support during their loss.
Services will be held Saturday Jan. 18, 2014, at 1 p.m., in Fort McDermitt, Nev.
