Group looking for interest in bereavement support group

LOVELOCK - XL Hospice is known for its caring support for end-of-life patients in Lovelock and Pershing County. What is not widely known is that the nonprofit group also offers bereavement support.

XL Hospice Chaplin Trudy Erquiaga is trying to find out if there is an interest in starting a bereavement support group in Lovelock. The support group would be offered free of charge and would be open to anyone in the community regardless of prior XL Hospice connections, Erquiaga said.

"We just want to provide a comfortable, confidential space where family members and friends of passed-on loved ones can gather and work through their grief together," Erquiaga said.

XL Hospice has secured a room in the Grace St. Francis Community Church to start the support group should there be any interest in attending.

"This is not a religious-based support group. It will be facilitated by XL Hospice and open to anyone with or without religious backgrounds," she said.

Anyone who would like to take part in a bereavement support group should contact Erquiaga at (775) 423-9511.

XL Hospice is also making plans to bring a Memory Bear workshop to Lovelock sometime in the future.

XL Hospice Office Manager Retta Verret said that the workshop has helped many in the Fallon area and the group is currently working to bring it to Lovelock.

"The workshop is a unique way of preserving memories of a deceased loved one," Verret said.

Stuffed bears are made out of a piece of clothing from a loved one. The bears can be accessorized with jewelry or other personal items.

"We have had people put notes inside the bears. There is really no limit to what can be done with the bears," Verret said.

Verret said that XL Hospice is still in the process of finding local seamstress or someone who would be willing to travel to Lovelock to sew the bears together. Anyone one interested in helping should contact Verret at the XL Hospice phone number mentioned above.[[In-content Ad]]
