Student participants at the state level must be from grades fourth through eighth and must have participated in and won the contest at the school level that involved at least six students.
One winner from each state and territory will advance to the national competition, which will be held May 22 - 24 at the National Geographic Society headquarters in Washington, D.C. Transportation and accommodations for the trip are provided for each state winner and a teacher-escort from the school that the winner attends.
National Geographic Channel and Nat Geo Wild will air the final round of the 2012 National Geographic Bee, moderated by Alex Trebek, on May 24 (to be followed on public television stations).
