Great Basin College has secured a Nevadaworks grant to help thirty low-income individuals attain job skills in several healthcare related careers. Course work will begin this fall, when classes resume at GBC.
The goal of the Nevadaworks grant funding is to train eligible low-income people in high demand fields. Once trained, the individual has the knowledge, skill and credentials to secure a good job in a sustainable career field.
Nevadaworks invests in low-income students' education by paying tuition, providing for books and supplies, and offering funding for child care. The expectation is that upon successful completion of the training program, students will seek employment and become employed. The grant funding provides an avenue for a low-income individual to take steps to help themself into a sustainable job with a satisfactory income.
The program offers low-income candidates career training opportunities as Medical Administrative Assistants, Pharmacy Technicians in Training, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and in Medical Coding and Billing.
