Grant brothers to host CSU-Pueblo Christian Wrestling Camp

WINNEMUCCA - The Grant Brothers/CSU-Pueblo Christian Wrestling Camp will take place July 13 - 15 at the new gym at Lowry High School for middle school and older students.

The camp is $50 per wrestler for pre-registration and $60 at the start of the camp, which includes a T-shirt. Cash or check only for registration and make checks payable to either Justin or Trevor Grant. A percentage of the proceeds will be donated to the Lowry High School wrestling program through a private contribution.

Over the three days, wrestlers will be exposed to a variety of techniques and new ideas to enhance their wrestling careers. This is not an intensive camp, but is designed more for technique, learning various ways to condition, maintain health suitable for elite athletes and to provide local wrestlers with an opportunity to mix it up on the mat.

The morning conditioning will be examples of college conditioning practices followed by 1 hour and 45 minutes of technique. The main theme centralizing all covered techniques will be position. There will be lectures over the topics of year-round training, healthy (athlete-appropriate) lifestyles, weight management, motivation and taking wrestling life-lessons off the mat.

This is a Christian wrestling camp, and they will end each day with an optional Bible study. God has blessed them tremendously through the sport of wrestling, and now they want to give back to Him by passing on their blessings and acquired knowledge of the sport to their home community.

Along with Justin Grant and Trevor Grant, CSU-Pueblo head coach Dax Charles and current CSU-Pueblo wrestler Jesse Hillhouse and members of the Lowry coaching staff will be part of the camp coaching staff.

Justin Grant was a starter at 165 pounds (2008-09, 2009-10, 2010-11) and a multiple time Academic All-American. In 2010-11 he a was named a first-team Academic All-RMAC, in 2010 he was a Division II national qualifier, fourth in the 2010 RMAC Conference, sixth in the 2011 RMAC Conference, a four-time high school state finalist and a two-time high school state champion.

Trevor Grant is a current CSU-Pueblo starter, a 2012 national qualifier and a two-time high school state champion.

Hillhouse is also a current CSU-Pueblo starter, a 2012 national qualifier, a 2011 Junior College national runner-up and a two-time Junior College All American.

Each day, campers are asked to bring a one-liter refillable sports bottle, one extra set of workout clothes (shorts, shirt, underwear, socks), wrestling and running shoes (some extra if needed), headgear is recommended, soap, shampoo and towel for showers. Sandals are recommended for the showers.

Late registration will take place from 7 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. on Friday, July 13. The camp will open with a prayer and a conditioning session going from 9 a.m. - 10 a.m. Technique will be worked on from 10:15 a.m. - noon, with a provided lunch from 12:30 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. Lecture and film will take place from 1:30 p.m. - 2 p.m. and live wrestling, review and stretching will go from 2:15 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
