Grace A. Kampf, 96, of Denver, Colo., and former Mosby and Winnett resident, died on Dec. 4, 2014, in Garden Terrace Nursing Center in Aurora, Colo., of natural causes.
She was born Aug. 10, 1918, in Bozeman, Mont., the daughter of Volney (Mike) and Lena (Kleiman) Alexander. The family moved to Central Montana and she attended schools in Fergus County, graduating from Moore High School in 1937.
She then attended Northwestern Business College in Spokane, Wash., receiving a secretarial certificate in 1938. She returned to Lewistown and taught shorthand and typing in the C.C.C. Camp in 1939 and 1940. In 1940 she received a civil service appointment to Washington, D.C., and worked for the federal government for over 10 years.
On Jan. 17, 1942, she was united in marriage to Parnell Allen in Washington, D.C. They later divorced and she returned to Montana and worked as a social worker for the Department of Public Welfare and worked as a legal secretary. On Dec. 3, 1958, she was united in marriage to Samuel Kampf in Great Falls, Mont. They lived in Great Falls until the late 1960s when they moved to Mosby and owned and operated the Kleiman Ranch.
She taught school for 14 years and then served as county superintendent of schools for Garfield County from 1979 to 1983. In 1993, they retired and moved to Winnett where they made their home until his death in 1998. She later moved to Winnemucca, Nev., to be near her son until 2010 when she moved to Colorado to be near her daughter Debbie. Grace loved to read; she compiled the Kleiman genealogy and was a member for many years of the Garfield County Democratic Central Committee. She is survived by three children: Samuel (Echo) Kampf, Jr. of Winnemucca, Nev., Patricia (Mark) Ferrell of Roseville, Calif., and Deborah Allen of Denver, Colo.; sisters Helen Qunell of Geraldine, Mont., Marie Roll of Billings, Mont., and Edna Kastner of Lewistown, Mont.; six grandchildren: Matthew Ferrell, Kelly Watson, Tara Bedwell, Carin Adams, Felicia Kampf and Tessa Kampf; eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Sierra Kampf, and a sister, Elsie Bengiola.[[In-content Ad]]
