GOED and Nevada Mining Association team up

STATELINE - The Nevada Governor's Office of Economic Development (GOED) and the Nevada Mining Association are forming a new statewide Supply Chain Committee to encourage mining support businesses to establish and expand their local footprints in the state, GOED Executive Director Steve Hill said.

In a recent speech at the Nevada Mining Association annual convention, Hill also announced that GOED has begun a search for a new mining industry specialist who will be located in Elko, and that the Nevada Mining Association will partner with GOED to fund the specialist's salary.

A host of businesses support the mines today - from information technology to security and administration, to equipment repair and maintenance - and many of these are located out of state. The committee will encourage these companies to establish a stronger local presence, creating new jobs and expanding intellectual capital.

"The mining industry has been a principal pillar of our economy since before Nevada became a state, and we are fully cognizant of its importance to our economy today," said Hill. "While diversifying our state's economy is a key objective of GOED, it is equally important to continue strengthening industries already contributing to Nevada's prosperity. Our collaboration with the Nevada Mining Association to hire a mining industry specialist and form the Supply Chain Committee sets Nevada on the right path to achieve this goal."

"The Nevada Mining Association is looking forward to even greater cooperation with GOED," said Tim Crowley, president of Nevada Mining Association. "As a pivotal industry in Nevada, we are constantly looking for ways to diversify mining and to increase the number of jobs we can provide to people in our state. This new position in GOED will help to bring the issues and challenges faced by the mining industry to light so that we can all work together to get Nevada growing again."
