On June 2, 2012, Gloria G. Swanson passed away to be in the loving arms of Jesus Christ. Gloria was born in Winnemucca on June 16, 1939, to Henry E. and Dorothy M. Backus.
Gloria spent her childhood in Winnemucca, graduating from Humboldt County High School, with a brief period at business school in Berkeley, Calif. She married her husband, Don on Dec. 4, 1959, in Pleasant Hills, Calif. The ceremony was conducted by her cousin, Bill Backus.
Family was very important in Gloria's life, tending to her children and husband, Don. She is survived by Don, daughters Sheri of Hesperia, Calif., Paula (Mike) of Concord, Calif., and sons Don of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Mike of Winnemucca. Grandchildren include Melissa, Jeff, Aaron, Ashley, Travis, Ryan, Danielle, Alex, Bryce, Whitnee, and Tommy, as well as great grandchildren Ricky, Nathan, Graysen, and Tinslee, her brother Dale Backus of Winnemucca, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Gloria will be missed by her family and many friends. She had a unique ability to make friends quickly and enjoy the company of everyone she touched. We will always treasure her memory.
We appreciate the support of the staff of Humboldt General Hospital, especially Dr. Soon Kim and Dr. Kurt Kracaw, as well as Pastor Gale of the United Methodist Church.
Respective of her wishes, there will be no services and she will be interred in the Winnemucca Cemetery aside her parents and sister.
