Gloria Frances Rodrigues Cooney, our wife, mom, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend was called to service by The Greatest Power on March 12, 2013, after a brief battle with cancer. She was 82 years old.
Gloria was born in Lovelock on June 19, 1930 to Antone and Philomena Freitas Rodrigues. It was in Lovelock that she met and married William Cooney Jr. on June 26, 1948.
During their life together, they called Lovelock, Las Vegas, Battle Mountain, and most recently, Gardnerville their home.
Previously called to service by the Great One were her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Antone Rodrigues, mother and father in law, Mr. & Mrs. William Cooney Sr., brothers, George Rodrigues, Gilbert Rodrigues, Sisters, Alice Custer, Inez Ciarlantini, her grandson, Jeffrey Cooney and numerous loving in laws.
She is survived by her husband, William Cooney Jr., sons, David Cooney (Lynne), William Cooney III (Shelly), daughters, Janet Lufrano, Judy Walker (Murry), 15 grandchildren, 23 1/2 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Gloria had a great love of her family and her church. Her beautiful smile and solid convictions will be missed by everyone who knew her. She was loved by everyone but mostly by the "Love of her Life", her husband Bill. They were lucky enough to share over 65 years together as best friends. She enjoyed golf, Bowling and was an avid TV fan.
Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Friday, March 22, 2013 at 4 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Lovelock. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at 11 a.m. also at the Church. Burial will follow in Lone Mountain Cemetery, Lovelock.
