Giving Tree for Seniors back for sixth year

WINNEMUCCA -The Humboldt Sun has a special tree in the office, full of names of needy senior citizens in our area - and it's ready for adoptions.

Winnemucca Publishing General Manager Holly Rudy-James spearheaded the Giving Tree for Seniors project six years ago.

"There are so many people in our area who don't have anyone to take care of them or to bring them a present at Christmas. This is just one way to help make their Christmas a little brighter," she said.

The names of more than 50 area residents have been collected and each Giving Tree angel lists their gender, age and a list of wants and wishes. The public is encouraged to adopt an angel and make or purchase as much or as little off their "wish list" as they are able. Some seniors wish for reading materials, warm socks and maybe some crochet yarn - others have greater needs and seek blankets, a small heater and other items to chase away the winter chill.

If you adopt an angel, please return your wrapped gifts along with the angel tag by Friday, Dec. 16, before the Humboldt Sun office closes at 3 p.m. Gifts will be distributed Dec. 21 - 23 by Winnemucca Publishing staffers.
