Community member April Woolsey donated last week at the blood drive at the Winnemucca Convention Center. Josh Frazier, with United Blood Services, made sure she was comfortable for the duration of the process. The blood drive was held July 16-17, and between the two days there were 103 donors and 129 units of blood collected, according to Humboldt General Hospital Auxiliary Blood Drive Chairman Toddy Folgate. Folgate said some donors gave double red blood cells, and those counted for two units. Hospital auxiliary volunteers handed out fruit juice and cookies to donors. Donated blood is also tested for cholesterol, and anyone with a reading above 300 mg/dl will receive a letter from United Blood Services. The next local blood drive will be held in November.
