The Lowry High School girls soccer team is going to spend a lot of time on the roads throughout northern Nevada and California in the first month of the season and that started this past Tuesday in Fallon.
The Lady Bucks took on Churchill County and the Greenwave used a goal late in the second half to pull out a 2-1 victory.
Churchill County scored the lone goal of the first half, when Lowry tied the match in the second half on a penalty kick by senior Monique Rodriguez. The Lady Bucks (1-2-1 overall, 0-1 Division I-A North) could not hold on to gain the one point in the tie, as the Greenwave countered with the winning goal in the final minutes.
"We started the season off pretty good and played well," said LHS coach Melanie Rasor. "At the end of the day we didn't win, but we played good. This a young team and we are learning different spots on the field. A lot of girls are learning new positions and that will come with experience and time."
The Lady Bucks began their season with the preseason Spring Creek Jamboree on Friday, Sept. 5, and Saturday, Sept. 6. Lowry lost its first match 1-0 to host Spring Creek, but came back to beat Jerome, Idaho.
In the victory over Jerome, Alyssa Jones scored twice and Iridiana Gonzalez, Kenadee Jeppsen, Hailey Hinkle, Shelby Garrison and Rodriguez scored one goal each. Garrison came up from the junior varsity team to play in the match.
Lowry closed out the weekend with a 1-1 tie against league rival Elko. Rodriguez scored the goal for Lowry off an assist by Audrey Snow.
"As we go on I need the younger players to play like upperclassmen," Rasor said. "They are just learning, but I think they will be just fine in the next couple of matches."
Lowry travels to Dayton on Saturday for a noon match with the Dust Devils. The Lady Bucks host Sparks on Thursday at 5 p.m. in their lone home match in September. Lowry hits the road once again on Saturday, Sept. 20, to play Truckee at noon.[[In-content Ad]]
