Girl Scouts seek Women In Leadership nominees

RENO - Do you know an extraordinary woman who has distinguished herself as an outstanding member of the community?

The Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada will honor women from across northern Nevada who truly stand out for their commitment to the community. Nominations are now being accepted for the 2014 TRIUMPHANT: Celebrating Women In Leadership awards program.

The women honored for 2014 will join the 38 distinguished women who have been honored as Women In Leadership since the program's inception in 2003. Honorees will be honored during the TRIUMPHANT: Celebrating Women In Leadership Awards Ceremony on Nov. 20, at 5:30 p.m. at the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa.

Five women will be honored, one in each of the five categories that represent the five focus areas of Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada:

• Healthy Living

• Financial Literacy

• STEM - science, technology, engineering and math

• Environmental Leadership and Responsibility

• Community Service

"TRIUMPHANT recognizes and honors the women in our community whose leadership and commitment inspire and make the world a better place," said Julia Ratti, chief executive officer for Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada.

Nominees must live or work in northern Nevada or northeastern California. They should exemplify extraordinary civic, professional, and/or philanthropic commitment and achievement, and be a role model for girls.

Nominees are to demonstrate initiative, integrity and leadership characteristics, and are not required to have been or currently be a Girl Scout. Nominations will be reviewed by the GSSN Selection Committee, and honorees will be announced in September.

The deadline for nominations is Aug. 15, 5 p.m. Nominations may be made online by visiting www.gssn.org.
