Gertrude E. Hammersmark, 87, passed away on Feb. 25, 2014 in Battle Mountain, Nev.
Gertrude was born July 18, 1926, near Madelia, Minn., to Helmer and Mariom (Haug) Nelson.
She married S. Oliver Hammersmark on Sept. 19, 1959, and lived in Billings, Mont., and Prescott, Ariz., before moving to Battle Mountain.
Gertrude graduated from high school in Troy, Minn., and attended business school in Minneapolis.
After school, she worked as a secretary in hospitals, churches and social services organizations.
She also sold Avon for 30 years.
Gertrude was active in the Lutheran, Methodist and Baptist churches.
She enjoyed selling Avon, listening to classical music and was an avid fan of the Phoenix Suns basketball team.
Gertrude is survived by her husband S. Oliver Hammersmark and daughter Michele Hammersmark of Battle Mountain.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister.
