George Arthur Killion 'The Ice Cream Man'

Born July 18, 1939 - died Dec. 20, 2014

George "The Ice Cream Man" Killion was born in San Francisco, Calif., on July 18, 1939, to Wiley and Laura Mae Killion. George was raised in the bay area where he attended school. He then joined the Navy reserve while he was living in San Mateo.

In the early 70s, George moved to Winnemucca and met his wife, Marlene Killion. He then moved to Reno to be with Marlene while she was attending UNR. They were married on Dec. 29, 1973, in Sparks, Nev.

After the Navy, George worked as a ranch hand, butcher, steel worker, tow truck driver, truck driver for McKesson Wine and Spirits, bartender and spent many years working for the Nevada Department of Transportation; but he found his true calling when he started his own ice cream truck business in 1992 and became Winnemucca's "Ice Cream Man." The Shamrock Ice Cream Truck was George's passion until he retired in 2006.

His other life-long passion was trains, and he and his wife were able to visit just about every train museum on the west coast. They traveled by train whenever possible and even took an extended trip north to Glacier National Park in 2013.

Services to remember George will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, well-wishers can make a donation to the LaRena Bengoa's Race for the Cure.

Arrangements are under the direction of Sonoma Funeral Home, Winnemucca, Nev., (775) 623-2986.
