LOVELOCK - MKC Rodeo Productions is busy organizing the 2013 Hell on Hooves Rodeo coming in September to Lovelock. The group is made up of four local people - J.J. and Julie Myers, Jodie Chico and DeWayne Kulbeth.
"This is our third year and it has grown each year," Kulbeth said.
Hell on Hooves is sanctioned by the CCPRA (California Cowboy Professional Rodeo Association). The Lovelock group is working hard to continue bringing professional rodeo action to their hometown. Kulbeth is looking forward to an exhibition with even more participants this year, he said.
The rodeo offers rough stock events, such as bull riding, bareback and saddlebronc riding. The rough stock provider is the same as last year, Rockin M Rodeo Company out of Red Bluff, Calif. Other events include roping and barrel racing.
Rockin M is one of the larger rough stock rodeo providers on the West Coast. According to their website www.rockinmrodeo.com, in addition to providing stock for rodeos, Rockin M specializes in providing livestock for authentic western scenes for film production companies shooting in western states.
To help locals hone their own barrel-racing technique, MKC Rodeo Productions has enlisted the help of professional barrel racer Lyndee Stairs, who will hold a barrel racing clinic at the Lovelock Rodeo Arena. Stairs will provide barrel racers a chance to develop their horse training skills and sharpen their own abilities. She is known for her professional barrel horse training and rider clinics. More information about Stairs can be found on her website at www.lyndeestairs.com.
The clinic is not accepting any more participants; however, spectators will be able to attend the clinic to listen as Stairs critiques the barrel-racing students. A $25 gate fee will be charged as a fundraiser for MKC. The clinic will take place April 13-14 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Another fundraiser the group has planned is the MKC - Hell on Hooves Kick-Off dinner on April 20. The dinner features a steak and lobster dinner at Sturgeon's Center Club. Tickets are $30 each and are on sale now at Crazy Corners Saloon and at the Big Wheel Casino both in Lovelock. Tickets can also be purchased from Kulbeth by calling (775) 622-5817, Myers at (775) 442-0454 and Chico at (775) 979-3216. Tickets must be purchased prior to the dinner; there will be no ticket sales at door.
"It takes a lot of money to put on a professional rodeo of this caliber. The Lovelock community has been very supportive of bringing the rodeo to town," Kulbeth said.[[In-content Ad]]
