LOVELOCK - Organizers of the fundraiser for 2-year-old Louie Gutierrez are calling the event a success. Organizers declined to say how much money was raised to help the family pay for medical expenses, but one of the organizers, Luetta Thomas, commented, "Our little town with a big heart came through with flying colors."

Thomas said she believed little Louie is home now but still faces three more years of treatments for acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

The spaghetti dinner fundraiser was held Sept. 6 at Sturgeons Inn and Casino in Lovelock.

"This is helping the community. Sturgeons is one of the bigger businesses in Lovelock and with that comes the responsibility to help out the community," Sturgeons General Manager Drew Skeen said on the night of the event.

"I believe that it is the responsibility of all businesses to give back to the community. This community relies on donations and Sturgeons is one of the top donors," Skeen said.

A walk-a-thon is scheduled for Oct. 27 at Lovelock's Strip Park at 10 a.m. to benefit the Gutierrez family.
